Note: Previously I went by Valerie Seelye Creative. My last name has changed from Seelye to Chacon.
Maker of things. Tinkerer. Explorer of the sensory experience through materials. Teacher of art through experimentation.
I’m a Montana-native artist who loves all things creative. I went to Flathead Valley Community College and Montana State University, obtaining both my associates and bachelors in graphic design. After college, I joined the U.S. Air Force as a photographer, journalist, and I do graphic design work when the need arises. After living in Germany for two years, I moved to Portland, OR. The dreaded 2020 hit and I realized Portland was not the place to be.
I love teaching and experiencing visual artworks with others. I recently obtained my Masters of Secondary Education (with an all-level certification in visual arts) from Texas State University in December, 2023. I love the sensory experience that comes with handling different materials. I strive to teach students to relax and approach the creative process with an explorative and curious mindset. My personal teaching philosophy is heavily based in constructivism, which is important for the art classroom so students feel open to engage in multimodal, experimental, and meaningful art making. You can download my full teaching philosophy below.
I live with my husband and son in central Texas, where I teach at Darling Art School. I also sell my hand creations at pop-up events. I only release items to sell on a limited basis, but am always open to inquieries. Thank you for dropping by!
